Introduction

Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (In Latin: Medicinae Baccalaureus Baccalaureus Chirurgiae), popularly known as MBBS is an undergraduate, first professional degree in medicine for the students who come from the background of a medical-high school (FSc/Intermediate/A-Level) and want to become a medical doctor.

The overall goal is to develop extensive medical knowledge with practical training and to lay a solid foundation for their further professional studies in any branch for medical graduates. Special requirements of other countries where most students originally come from are also taken into the account. The M.B.B.S. curriculum is organized in a disciplinary setting based on a school’s existing undergraduate medical education program and composed of two stages, Pre-clinic & clinic stage.

The degree of MBBS In Ukraine is approved and listed in all relevant international directories for medical universities such as the International Medical Education Directory (IMED) of FAIMER, UNESCO, and AMEE, & World Directory of Medical Schools (WHO List of Medical Schools). This means graduates of the university are eligible to write the Licensing Exams like USMLE, PLAB, NLE, NMC.

Medical degree from Ukraine is also registered in the AVICENNA Directory which is maintained by the University of Copenhagen in collaboration with the World Health Organization and the World Federation for Medical Education (WFME).

Difference Between MD & MBBS

MD stands for Doctor of Medicine while MBBS stands for Bachelor of Medicine-Bachelor of Surgery. Ukraine and all other European countries are currently offering the Masters degree (M.D).

 

What is MD?

MD is a Masters/Postgraduate degree. In some countries, a candidate becomes eligible for MD only after successfully completing a MBBS degree. But mainly, the MD program is considered a 6-years first professional medical degree after completion of high school.

An MD is expected to gradually make the student a specialist in the Medical branch of choice.

 

What is MBBS?

MBBS is a 5-years bachelor’s first professional degree in medicine. Although it varies between countries, a MBBS degree is typically completed in 4 and a half years. In most countries, the student is required to complete an internship (House-job) of 6-months before being awarded the degree in order to demonstrate sufficient exposure. This is so that the students have a qualified amount of practical exposure.

    The duration of degree programs is as follows:
  • Bachelor degree programs – 4 Years
  • Master degree program – 2/3 years (depending on a specialty, curriculum, and university)
  • Medical studies (MD/MBBS) – 6 years
  • Ph.D. (Doctor of Philosophy) – 4 years
  • Clinical Postgraduate studies (Medical Internship) – from 2 till 4 years.
  • n order to start admission processing and to get confirmation from admission commission of chosen University, it is necessary to submit scan copies of the following documents:
  • Copy of international passport
  • Copy of school leaving certificate (Certificate of A level/SSCE/HSSCE/FSC/ WAEC /NECO/ Bachelor etc.)
  • Copy of personal data application form signed by an applicant. (The form you need to download from our website, fill, sign and send us its scan copy)
  • To apply for Master degree program, it is necessary to submit Bachelor degree diploma and transcript.
  • The average monthly expenses for students for food and living are about 150-200 US$. Ukrainian universities have all favorable conditions for international students living: campuses, student hostels at affordable cost, student canteens, student sports gyms, and halls. Transport expenditures are also very low.

    As per the current rules of the Pakistan Medical Commission (PMC), after graduating from Ukraine you can practice in Pakistan. After graduating from Ukraine or Russia, you have to appear for a Screening test (NLE) & you need to complete a house-job for 1 year in any hospital. After clearing the NLE test, you will be registered in PMC as a medical doctor.

    For Indian Students:

    As per the current rules of the Medical Council of India (MCI), you can practice in India. After graduating from Ukraine or Russia, you have to appear for a Screening test, conducted by the National Board of Education (NBE), New Delhi. On clearing this test you need to register with the MCI and comply with all their rules and then you will get a Registration that will allow you to practice Medicine in India

    There are two types of vacations in Ukrainian and Russian medical universities.
    • Winter vacations will last from 25th of December till 15th of January;
    • Summer vacation: 1st July to 31st August

    It should be noted that the airlines allow 20-25 kgs of luggage to be carried free of cost. Keep in mind that it is allowed to carry 2 bags per person on transatlantic flights. Anyway, it is recommended to bring the most necessary things with you, those you won’t be able to purchase in Ukraine.
